Laura Welsch is an assistant in the Spanish section of the Department of Literary Studies where she teaches courses on Latin American literature and culture. She studied in Germany and Argentina, and holds a Master´s degree in the field of Inter-American studies. Before coming to Ghent, she had a special interest in Paraguayan history and culture as well as socio-environmental conflicts in Latin America. Her current research interests include multiple ontologies and the notion of the pluriverse, human-nonhuman relations, political ecology, communitarian feminism and decolonial practices. In her PhD project she explores, from a critical gender perspective, the extractive paradigm and forms of contestation in a selection of literary texts from Peru and Colombia. She´s also interested in environmental pedagogies and feels deeply embedded in the forests and mountains of Bavaria.
